Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your school

"Who was absent in 9B yesterday?" "What's my timetable on Thursday?" "How is Sara doing in maths this term?"

You can now ask those questions in ordinary language — to Claude, to ChatGPT, to Gemini — and get an answer from your own school's data. Tawaasal speaks the Model Context Protocol, the open standard those assistants use to read from other systems, and any of them can be connected to your school in about a minute.

It reads. It does not write.

An assistant connected to Tawaasal can only read. It cannot mark attendance, change a grade, send a message, approve a request, or alter anything at all. Ask it to, and it will tell you it can't.

It also sees exactly what you see, and never more. Connect it as a teacher and it reads your classes; ask about a pupil outside them and it will say that pupil isn't visible to you, rather than answer. There is no separate "AI user" with its own permissions. The assistant borrows yours, for as long as you let it.

What it can be asked about

Your school admin chooses which of these to make available:

• Attendance — who was absent, late or excused on a day; which classes haven't been marked yet.
• Grades — how a class performed on an assessment; how one pupil is doing across subjects.
• Merit points — points awarded over a period, per-pupil totals, the leaderboard.
• Timetable — a class's week, or your own.
• School calendar — terms, holidays, trips and meetings.
• Reports — which standard reports you may run, and running one.

"Yesterday", "last week" and "this term" all work: the assistant asks Tawaasal for your school's calendar and timezone before it answers, so it resolves them against your school year rather than a generic one.

Three things are excluded on every plan, for everyone, with no setting to change it: safeguarding concerns, wellbeing records, and private messages. Connectors cannot reach them.

The school stays in charge

Nothing is connected until a school admin turns connectors on. The admin also decides which roles may connect, which of the categories above they may read, and whether a role must have multi-factor authentication set up first. Every connection appears in the admin's view with who made it and when it was last used, and any of them can be revoked in one click.

Each person can see their own connections too — under Your Connected Assistants in their profile — and disconnect any of them. A connection expires after ninety days, and ends by itself after seven days unused.

Be clear about where your questions go

When you ask an assistant about your school, the question and the answer are sent to that assistant's provider — OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, depending on which you connected. Once it leaves Tawaasal we no longer control it, including how long they keep it, and some personal accounts on those services may use conversations to improve their models.

We say this on the consent screen, and we'd rather say it here too: treat it the way you would treat pasting the same information into that assistant by hand, because that is what it is.

Connecting one

The steps happen mostly inside your assistant. Add a new connector, integration or MCP server — each product names it differently — and when it asks for an address, give it:

It sends you to Tawaasal to sign in, shows you a consent screen listing exactly what it will be able to read, and you choose Allow. Tawaasal recognises ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code and Gemini Enterprise and marks them as verified; anything else can still connect, but the consent screen will tell you it isn't recognised and name the address it will return you to, so you can decide.
